A short Saturday Message

We had a long day.  It started at the Shelby Manufacturing Center with what seemed like 250 mustangs following the pace car. (They told us at the driver meeting that 175 cars registered in Las Vegas.)  The final overall number of cars entered is an awesome 643!!

So we all take off and about six of us missed the first exit.  OOPS!  DUH!  We turned around and as Jeff and I were going under the underpass to make our left hand turn to get back on the highway, we heard and saw a Ford Contour make the same left hand turn and slide on the slick surface (did I tell you it rained overnight in Las Vegas?); he slid up the underside of the overpass and stopped when he slid back down to the road surface.

After that interesting experience, we both were awed by Hoover Dam.  Which they are in the process of re-working so that you will go over the Dam on a HUGE bridge.  We chose to just let Jeff take pix out the window and not stop.

Then we proceeded on Route 66 and had a lot of fun seeing the Snow Cap which was the basis for the movie "Cars".  After that we got on I-40 and experienced rain, hail, and snow.  I missed an opportunity to get good pictures of the snow in Flagstaff.  For me, this is the closest I have been to snow since 2004.

Everone will be glad to know we made it safely to Holbrook, AZ where we are spending the night at the Holiday Inn Express.  But first, there were lines at both coin operated car washes in town as we all worked hard to remove the salt and sand from our cars.

No pictures tonight.  I will try to catch up with those tomorrow.  I am hoping y'all will give me a pass since this has been a wonderful but intense day.  Our mileage for the day was approximately 372 miles.

We start it all over at 8 am tomorrow.  Until tomorrow, have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the time spent with family!

  4. Jeff and Larissa;
    We made it home yesterday about 4 PM and are eagerly back at work...how exciting. Hope all is going well. Jeff forgot to prepay for our room at the Aliante for Sat night, so we had to sleep in the lobby, but it's a very nice lobby. Keep us updated...Don and Cheryl at dcauwinger@yahoo.com
